london calling

oh, london. why do you have to be so charming? i am powerless over your brick-faced townhouses, and find myself daydreaming about moving the maxey clan into our very own 3-story charmer in kensington (of course, in my daydream this 3-story charmer is totally affordable and comes with ample parking and adorable neighbors who pop by with trays of mince pies and victoria sponge every afternoon).  i could spend afternoon after afternoon wandering selfridges and liberty, sampling lipgloss and chocolate and buying pillows, tea sets and other totally unnecessary home accessories (i just need a few things to decorate the new townhouse!).

2 weekends ago i popped up to london for a long weekend to visit my beautiful friend, amber.  you may recall amber from the great “home exchange” adventure last june, or from our girls’ weekend in strasbourg in the fall. amber and her gorgeous family are moving back home to the US in february, so this was my last chance to give her a squeeze and share a few london laughs. we covered a lot of ground … both literally and figuratively. we wandered covent garden, sloan square, oxford street, kings road and notting hill, all the while chatting and catching up on our families, our hearts, careers, babies, paint colors and reality tv … a whole lot of nothing and everything. it was perfect.

as always, the 4 days flew by all too fast, and before i knew it i was back on a plane heading home to germany and my own sweet family. i was full and content from all of the sights and smells and adventures of london (not to mention the english bacon and eggs on toast i devoured before heading to the airport). london is calling … me back. hopefully soon.
