we survived.

holy crazy february. all i can say is, we survived. it was a bit touch and go at times, but we made it to march. the sun finally showed up, we got back into the positive digits (degrees celsius, that is) and there are bright days ahead.

at the end of february i came down with the worst cold / flu / virus / something OF MY LIFE. i was down and out for a whole week, sneezing and coughing and chills and fever and not sleeping and praying for relief from the crazy headache that seemed determined to make a permanent home in my brain. i finally braved the walk-in clinic in nuremberg in order to get some DRUGS, PLEASE. my first personal experience w the public healthcare system was a-ok. long wait? check. 5 minute appointment that was all in german? check. drugs? check. mission accomplished.

the silver lining to the week in bed? i watched seasons 1 and 2 of downton abbey – TWICE EACH. i know i’m a bit late to the downton abbey party, but I FREAKING LOVE THAT SHOW. now to wait another year for the next season?? however will i make it?!

poor bitty also caught the funk, so husband was florence nightingale for almost 2 weeks. wen was also fighting a cold, but as his was a tad less severe than ours (and frankly, he’s just way tougher than his girls), by default he became the caretaker. cute husband.   he also had a darling little assistant helping out – piper was SO sweet and grownup about the whole thing, graciously taking the backseat while wen attended to me and the bits (although piper did get to watch about a bazillion movies over the course of the week, so she’s probably praying that this happens again – soon!).

as such, as soon as i started feeling a bit better, i took piper out for a special date, just us, not bitty & daddy, right mom? starbucks and pretzels and shopping and just wandering the old city. she’s SO chatty and i love hearing all of her stories and observations and questions. i’ve really been mourning the transition from toddler to little girl, but i’m also loving watching her grow into this lovely young lady. please oh please let her always want to hang out with me and confide in me and share these moments with her mommy. pleeeeease.

the sun came out yesterday so we took a little day trip to regensburg, which is this beautiful little town about an hour from nuremberg. it was SO fun to explore a new city. we haven’t done that in forever, and it got me so excited for the adventures we have planned ahead. in april we’ll be heading to amsterdam and then berlin – and in may we’ll be taking a long road trip to paris, london and luxembourg. I. CAN’T. WAIT.

hope you’re all enjoying a relaxing and beautiful sunday. sending lots of love and wishes for GOOD HEALTH from germany. xo.
